A variety of firearms training and safety courses for civilians are offered at HACC, Central Pennsylvania’s Community College. All courses are held at the Senator Jeffrey E. Piccola Law Enforcement Complex on HACC’s Harrisburg Campus.
This class is designed for civilians wanting to gain basic knowledge and hands-on experience with a handgun. Students are required to provide their own handgun and 50 rounds of manufacturer-approved ammunition (no re-loaded ammunition allowed). Students are also required to provide proper hearing protection, eye protection and a baseball-style hat. Individuals must be at least 21 years old to register.
What are HACC’s classes like?
The six-hour course will cover legal topics, such as Chapter 5 of the Pennsylvania Crimes Code and Pennsylvania’s Castle Doctrine, nomenclature, cleaning, safe handling and storage of the handgun. The live fire portion will cover basic fundamentals such as proper stance, grip, sighting and trigger control.
This course is the hands-on training for students who took the online portion of Basic Handgun Marksmanship and Safety for Civilians. Students are required to provide their own handgun and 50 rounds of manufacturer-approved ammunition (no re-loaded ammunition allowed). Students are also required to provide proper hearing protection, eye protection, a baseball-style hat and a basic gun cleaning kit. Individuals must be at least 21 years old to register.
What are HACC’s classes like?
The two-hour course will allow students to practice the basic fundamentals of shooting using proper stance, grip, sighting and trigger control learned in the online portion of Basic Handgun Marksmanship and Safety for Civilians. They will practice dry fire, proper loading, unloading and live fire of their handgun. They will learn how to clean their firearms upon completion of the course of fire.

The Personal Pistol Trainer course allows you to accelerate your marksmanship skills by working one-on-one with an expert instructor. Designed like a personal fitness training session, the instruction will be tailored to fit your unique abilities and learning style in a comfortable and private environment.
