The Shumaker Public Safety Center is an authorized American Heart Association training center. We provide Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) training. Learn about this training.

To minimize the risk of COVID-19 transmission during AHA CPR Certification courses, HACC- Shumaker Public Safety Center, EMS Education unit will be conducting limited offerings of the blended Heartsaver CPR & AED as well as Heartcode BLS until social distancing guidelines for reducing the transmission of COVID-19 outbreak are no longer in effect.*

  About The American Heart Association (AHA) has developed eLearning components for the Heartsaver CPR AED.  Heartsaver courses are intended for anyone with little or no medical training, who needs a course completion card for a job, regulatory agency (i.e., OHSA), or other requirements.  These courses can also be taken by anyone who wants to be prepared for an emergency in any setting.  The required online portion is purchased separately, directly through the American Heart Association. The AHA's Heartcode BLS Course is designed for healthcare professionals and other personnel in a clinical setting who need to know how to perform CPR and other basic cardiovascular life support skills in a wide variety of in-facility and prehospital settings.  E-Learning component of BLS blended learning, this course uses a variety of eLearning assets such as dramatizations, eSimulations, animations, self-directed learning, and interactive activities to teach students BLS knowledge and skills.  The required online portion is purchased separately, directly through the American Heart Association.
 Who should take this class? General public, Massage Therapists, Educators/Schools, Businesses and Industries.  Heartsaver CPR AED is geared for anyone with limited or no medical training, who needs a course completion card in CPR and AED for their job, regulatory agency, or other requirements. Medical Professionals, Doctors, Nurses, EMS Personnel, Dental Professionals, students of medical professions entering a clinical experience (such as Respiratory Therapists, Nursing, Cardiovascular Technicians, Dental Hygiene), or anyone required to have the Basic Life Support (BLS) level, certification by their place of employment or license/certification, and students.

Classroom Portion

Upon completion of the online portion, students must complete the hands-on skills session with an AHA BLS or Heartsaver Instructor.

*Purchasing the activation code from the AHA does not enroll you into a skills sessions. You must register for both separately; completing the on-line portion first.

When is registration due?
Registration for closes two weeks before the start of class. We will not accept on-site registrations. Payment is due at the time of registration.
