Do I need placement testing?
Yes you do, unless you qualify for direct placement into college-level math or English courses. Submit a high school or college transcript or score report for scores to be accepted. See the chart below to determine qualification for college-level courses.

How do I submit a high school transcript or SAT, ACT, GED score report?
High school transcripts or score reports may take up to 5 days to be evaluated for placement and may be submitted in one of the following ways:

How do I prepare for the placement test?
HACC uses the College Board's ACCUPLACER placement test. Your placement tests are not a pass or fail, but we do want you to prepare to ensure you succeed and do your best. Performing well on your placement test will ensure that you can enroll in the best-fit classes.
- Avoid taking the test just to get it done. Choose a day and time that will allow you to concentrate on the exam for an extended period of time without distractions.
- Review the sample questions and resources to build your confidence.
- Get plenty of rest and eat properly before the test.

How do I set up a time to take my placement test?

What do I need to bring to on the day of the test?
HACC requires photo identification. Approved forms of photo identification include:
- Driver's license
- Work or school identification
Note: We do not permit children in the test center. We do not permit cell phones, calculators or electronic devices.
What should I do after I complete the test?
After completing placement testing, schedule your new student orientation. An advisor will interpret your scores and help you choose courses.
What is the re-testing policy?
Students are allowed to retake all or individual placement tests. Students may not retest on the same day. Before re-taking a test, students should review preparation resources.
The initial test and first re-test are free of charge. Any subsequent retests will incur a $25 non-refundable fee.

How can I prepare for the First Year Seminar test-out exam?
Students interested in testing out of the 1-credit First Year Seminar should use the "On Course" textbook for preparation, available at most bookstores. Additionally, a set of flashcards is available free online. Students should also be familiar with the OnCourse principles, outlined here.
