Meet Zachary: Student Seeking New Career

“Going to HACC has provided me the path to get to where I want to be in my career.”

After graduating from a four-year school in 2007, Zachary Persing, a computer networking student, was diagnosed with a kidney disease that led to a transplant. After surgery, he said he was “not in a good place” and it was difficult for him to “get back into a normal life.” The experience has since made him stronger and taught him not to take life for granted.

Zachary enrolled at HACC when he decided it was time to pursue a new career. Since Zachary works a full-time job, he knew it would be difficult “to juggle a lot of classes.” HACC’s program provided him the mix of online and in-person classes that was ideal for him.

He is inspired by his professors, who he said “not only provided comic relief during class time but they encouraged me to ask questions rather than stay silent.” Their passion for teaching encouraged him to stick with it.

Zachary said, “HACC can provide you with a lot of the tools to either start a career or act as a stepping stone into further education if desired.”

After graduating from HACC, Zachary plans to work in the information technology (IT) field and potentially earn his bachelor’s degree.
